- Adam Smith opens the freezer where a baby's body has been stored for decades.
A man in the south of St. Louis said his mother had died with a dark secret: for decades, he had kept a dead baby in his freezer.
37-year-old Adam Smith told reporters he had made this macabre discovery by cleaning up his communal home last week after his death from lung cancer. He assumes that the baby was his older sister.
"I still had hair, skin and all other " , Smith KSDK said . "I was mummified."
His mother, Barbara Smith (68), has been reluctant in many aspects of his life, he says. One of the forbidden items had always been the box he had stored in his freezer for decades.
"This box has been placed in every freezer, in every house we've lived in all my life, " Smith told KMOV .
He remembers being once told it was the cake of a wedding cake, but his mother had always refused to answer questions directly from the box. Smith says he moved with her to take care of her while fighting cancer. After his death on July 21, he began sorting his belongings and cleaning the Clifton Heights division. At that moment, he finally decided to find out what was in this box.
It was a memorable occasion, he said on the St. Louis Post Expedition , took a picture of the box and told his girlfriend he was going to look inside. first time First, he felt a leg and as he started to open the package, he noticed that he was looking at the frozen body of a dead child.
Smith called the police in St. Louis on Saturday just before 1pm. A spokeswoman for the ministry said investigators were sent to the pedophilia and homicide commission. They treat the case as "suspicious death" until an autopsy is performed.
Smith says he still tries to handle this amazing discovery and wonders if he'll ever hear the whole story about what happened to this baby and why his mother kept the secret for so long.
"Who does that?" he asks in an interview with KMOV . "Who keeps his own son in a box for so long and never talks about it?"
