We tested it: Dyson's new WashG1, a $700 wet floor cleaner

When I heard that Dyson was releasing a new wet floor cleaner, I jumped at the chance to try it out in my apartment before it launched in the US on October 1st. The Dyson WashG1 is the brand's first non-suction wet floor cleaner - you need to vacuum the floor before using it for wet cleaning. However, Dyson says it can collect dry waste, which it then stores in a small tray at the bottom of the machine away from dirty water.

This distinguishes it from combination vacuum cleaners and mops , which are difficult to clean due to the soft residue that mixes with the dirty water. Its counterclockwise rotating brush rollers (see below) are also designed to prevent dirt from settling in the rollers, another tricky part of the post-cleaning process.

Dyson claims that the WashG1's rotating brushes can pick up dry dirt, but recommends vacuuming before using the WashG1.
