WASHING Denim is a real minefield.

Some people say that jeans shouldn't be washed too often, while others say it's good to wash them when you need to.

It is much easier to do this with other items of clothing such as underwear and sportswear, as they naturally need to be washed after use.

But while most of us love good jeans, we all seem to have problems with how often we should or shouldn't wash them.

To answer that overwhelming question, we spoke to experts about how often you should wash your jeans. Plus, we have the best tips and tricks to keep you updated.

Laundry expert Deyan Dimitrov, CEO of Laundryheap, said you should wash your jeans after every third use.

He said, "Despite the popular myth circulating on the internet that you cannot wash your jeans for up to six weeks, after three uses (more or less a few days depending on whether or not they are stained or stained) you should wash them not).

"As you wear jeans (or any type of clothing) for a long time, sweat, bacteria, and dead skin cells build up on your clothing and start to smell.

"Washing your jeans after every third use will keep them fresh and keep them from losing their shape. "

Elsewhere, GAP has said that it is up to you how often you wash your jeans. It all depends on how the clothes fit and feel, but the less you wash your jeans, the better!

Gap stated that jeans hold their color longer, hold their shape well and, ultimately, are more environmentally friendly.

It is generally recommended that you wash every nine to ten uses.

At Gap, 91% of the denim is part of the Washwell ™ water saving program, which means it is made with 20% less water, helping local waterways and minimizing the impact of waste on the planet.

Meanwhile, Home How cleaning expert Joyce French has shown that some people make too much of the mistakes of washing their jeans.

She said, "You should wash your jeans in moderation, people make the mistake of washing their jeans too often.

"It ruins the stretch of denim, if you wash it, you hit it, and with every cycle the fabric breaks.

"The longer you can leave jeans on between washes, the better, because denim is a thicker material than your average T-shirt, and there can be more wear and tear between washes.

"We'd say you can get away with a dozen pieces of clothing before you wash them or when your jeans start to smell.

"Our advice would be to never wash your jeans in hot water and never to put them in the dryer. While you might think it'll make them tougher, it actually destroys the fabrication.

"That's why jeans lose their elasticity and sag. "

JEAN HACKS

Maintain the color of your jeans with fabric dye

Laundry expert Deyan advised that you should turn your jeans over every time you wash them to avoid discoloration.

He added if you've been wearing your jeans for a long time and they look very worn out, don't be tempted to buy a new one. Invest in clothing dye instead!

He explained that you can get it at most UK homeware stores and it can save you a fortune buying new jeans. This works especially well with dark indigo or black jeans.

Wash with cold water and never use washing powder.

Deyen also suggested washing your jeans in cold water (20 degrees or less).

He explained, "It keeps them soft (avoids the itchy feeling you get with freshly laundered jeans) and also prevents them from shrinking.

"Be sure to use liquid detergent or capsules (and only use the recommended amount!) When washing your jeans, as powder detergent can dry out and scratch your jeans. "

Never dry your jeans

The Laundryheap CEO also added that one of the "most important things about jeans" is to avoid the dryer unless your jeans are too big.

She explained that it can shrink or fade your denim. As your jeans air dry, they will hold their shape and color longer.

Dish soap if you spill food on your jeans

Deyen also shared his advice on what to do if you spill food or drink out of your jeans. And all you need for stains without washing your jeans is a small dishwasher.

He said, "It works especially well when you have an oily / greasy stain on your jeans. You need to apply the detergent directly to the stain and rub it gently with a warm cloth.

"Don't be too abrasive as this could damage the fabric. Let the detergent do the work! Let the dishwasher stand for 10 minutes and then rinse it under running water.

"If you're in a hurry, use a blow dryer to blot the stain (again, don't put it too close because you don't want to damage the fabric)."

Grill and smell your jeans

Laundry expert Deyen also shared his expert advice on what to do if your jeans smell a little - and you don't have time to wash them!

He said you can make your own spray air freshener by mixing one part water and one part vinegar in a spray bottle. Shake to mix, then spray on your jeans.

If you have the time, Deyen suggested letting your jeans dry in the sun until they are completely dry.

White vinegar is great for deodorising any fabric by removing odors rather than just covering them.

Joyce, a home cleaning expert at HomeHow, meanwhile, said that before you wash, you can prevent spills and odor marks by soaking your jeans for a long time to get rid of odors.

She said, "Add 1 cup of vinegar to the sink or kitchen sink, then fill it with warm water. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil for a fresh scent.

"Soak the garment for 30 to 60 minutes, then wash it as directed.

"Another way to remove the smell of smoke from clothing is to wash it with a tablespoon of baking soda.

"Baking soda is a natural enhancer for clothing that helps remove smoke stains and odors. You can also leave them hanging outside for 24 hours.

Put your jeans in the freezer

Another tip to keep our jeans cool is to put them in the freezer, says GAP.

They explained to me that you can put the jeans in the freezer to clean them and restore their freshness. You can also hang them outside in dry weather to let nature get rid of odors.

Meanwhile, HomeHow's Joyce agreed and said that you can put your jeans in the freezer for a few hours to remove odors temporarily.

She said, "The general idea is that frozen jeans prevent bacteria and other germs from growing.

"When you've finished wearing your jeans, toss them in the freezer until you can wear them again.

"You can put them in a sealed plastic bag first so they don't touch the frozen food. "

Soak your jeans in cold water and vinegar.

Elsewhere, Joyce revealed that another trick to keeping your jeans fresh without washing them is to soak them in cold water and vinegar instead of washing them.

Put a cup of white distilled vinegar in a cold water bath and soak your jeans for about an hour. Hang it up or let it dry and don't worry about smelling the vinegar. The smell will go away once your pants are dry.

He explained that this technique blocks the color of the dye and holds the color of your jeans in place.

Hang your jeans up in the bathroom while you shower

Another way to keep your jeans cool without washing them is to hang them up in the bathroom while you shower, Joyce revealed.

She explained, "A quick way to freshen them up is to hang them up in the bathroom while you shower.

"The steam from your shower will soon make your dark blue smell like new and a small amount of water vapor won't swell the fabric. "

Hang your jeans outside

Dry cleaning expert Joyce also revealed that hanging jeans outdoors will freshen her up.

He explained that your dryer could be just as dangerous for your jeans as the washing machine, since high temperatures will shrink your jeans and cause unnecessary wear and tear all the way through.

She said, "If it's okay outside, hang your jeans outside. Airing your jeans gives them a rejuvenated scent. Just make sure they are not exposed to direct sunlight.

"The sun makes your jeans fade faster than you think!
