Huron County Health Unit offers suggestions for residents safely after the flood to clean up.

Public Health Inspector Mike Park said the owner of wells in areas that receive heavy rains or floods will now test the water quality.

Flood water can be heavily contaminated by sewage and pollutants that can cause disease and infection.

Wells in flood-prone areas of low height is a greater risk, such as dug wells, unsealed many wells and well casing.

If the water has a smell, bad taste or discolored, you should boil water before use until a test confirms that it is safe. Do not use your septic system until the water level is lower than the water level in the absorption area in the home. Bleach the basement when to disinfect sewage backup.

You should wear clean gloves, a mask, goggles and rubber boots. Remove the water standing and then use soap to clean the affected areas. Dry them as soon as possible. Use to prevent fans, heaters and dehumidifiers mold.

Also, check household items that are not dried within 48 hours.
