September 19, 2019 - Delete, Delete and Hide. Unless you live under the hammer, you've probably heard about the recent public relations controversy that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is sitting on.
Time Magazine has received a Yearbook 2001 in which the Canadian Prime Minister proudly poses with a black face and a turban at the West Point Gray Academy. This is, to say the least, as inappropriate as it was in 2001.
While the charming Canadian Prime Minister faces this public relations disaster, it's a good time for everyone to familiarize themselves with the Internet so that these types of images or messages will not harm their careers or their status.
# 1 - Start deleting with your oldest posts
The first one is obvious. Scroll through the number of items in your year and remove any items that are considered inappropriate. They may have been young and stupid like Prince Harry using this swastika , but that's no excuse when these things appear. Consider the following: 50% of employers say they do not hire anyone who has posted something inappropriate on social media. And we all know they check their profiles before hiring them.
Professional advice: Start with the oldest and not the latest news. Most likely, there is more controversy.
# 2 - Remember to create all your "friends only" postings
Age by itself means more and more jobs are being made public. These Instagram selfies invite you to have a good time with the boys, leave the girls and face the cat after the Las Vegas nights. Do you really want everyone in the world to see it? Just talk about common sense: Make your messages "just friends" so that you and your friends can follow your social life.
Professional advice: You do not have to do it manually. On the most popular social networking sites like Facebook and Instagram, you can control the privacy of all your messages in just a few clicks.
# 3 - Consider a personal website instead of social networks
If you're browsing Google, your social networks are likely to list the search results. Even a name change (which violates the terms and conditions strategy of Facebook) will not solve this problem. Think about whether you want to set up a personal website that represents you for employers and potential customers. There are personal blogs for those who like to write. People who paint, photograph or design have their personal website as a wallet. Some even look for work with an online resume. Indeed , Hostinger's hosting provider data shows that the number of personal websites has increased. So why not go with a growing stream?
Council Pro: if the family name is already in use, consider the different domain extensions such as famille.xyz or .Online.
In the age of social networking, anything you post is or may be a disadvantage for the future. Keep in mind that your social hygiene is just as important as brushing your teeth in the morning, and we're sure you will not end up like Justin Trudeau.
