When it comes to cleaning stainless steel pans , it can be difficult to find the best method to get them sparkling clean (hello dry spots and cloudy brown spots!) without damaging the surface. Luckily, I spoke to some of the top cleaning experts about their favorite tips and tricks to get your pans looking new in no time. Here's everything they had to say.
1. Baking soda and vinegar
One of the best ways to remove stubborn stains from stainless steel pans, according to Maria Mock, president of Molly Maid , is to mix 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/2 cup white vinegar with hot water. "Sprinkle baking soda all over the pan. Next, pour vinegar over the baking soda and watch the chemical reaction between the two bubbles. Let it sit for a few minutes as this will help remove any food particles. Soak the pan in hot water for 15 to 30 minutes. Don't worry about removing the baking soda and vinegar first. Wipe out and rinse the pan. Finally, scrape off larger pieces with a putty knife and scrub with steel wool.

2. Baby oil
Don't have a box of baking soda lying around? For a little extra shine, use this tip from Ken Doty, COO and cleaning expert at The Maids . Doty says baby oil is one of the best things for the job. "Simply mix a teaspoon of dish soap with a liter of water. Dampen a microfiber cloth with the solution to clean the stainless steel from top to bottom. Then use another clean microfiber cloth with warm water and wipe away the residue. Allow to dry and rub with baby oil, following the grain to create a glossy finish. Who knew baby oil could be so versatile?

3. Chain mail
If you want to remove very stubborn stains or food residue, this tip should do the trick. Mark Longenecker, co-founder of Lancaster Cast Iron , tells me how important it is to use a scraper on hard-to-reach spots. "Since I started using chain mail on my cast iron, I now do the same when cleaning my stainless steel cookware. It is sturdy enough to remove stuck-on food particles but soft enough not to remove seasonings.

4. Steel wool
Jeff Leitman, CEO of Hell's Kitchen Cookware , also shared his best, best-kept cleaning secrets. "We recommend steel wool for sanding pads. Apply light pressure to the dirty areas using small strokes or circles. If you prefer an abrasive cleaner, something like Bar Keepers Friend will work wonders to restore stainless steel to its shiny, like-new condition.
