Although I enjoy cleaning, I don't want to spend all my free time doing it. That's why, since I moved in with my partner two years ago, I've made it my mission to get rid of all the small tasks on Fridays so that I can have my weekends free.
I love a clean and tidy house as much as the next person. A pristine space calms my soul and helps me feel calmer, calmer and more in control. Taking 30 minutes every Friday to quickly clean problem areas in my house has been a game-changer.
Of course, everyone relies on their own cleaning tips , but they really work and are easy to follow for over 100 weeks. Whether I'm refinishing my floors, cleaning my dining room table, or renovating my bathroom, my Friday the 30th routine gets the weekend off to a great start.
My quick cleaning trick for Friday the 30th
Studies have shown that a clean home makes you happier. I have certainly seen and felt the benefits a clean and tidy home can bring.
I used to feel nervous or unable to sit down at the start of the weekend. But after just 30 minutes of cleaning at the end of the work week, I got my weekends back.
On Friday night, I feel in control and calm, no matter what the week brings.
Carolina Kazimierski , president and co-owner of Illinois-based Sophia's Cleaning Service, explains why that might be: "A dirty or messy house can make people nervous because it constantly reminds them of something they need to do." do it at some point.
"We have all experienced moments in which we want to relax, but cannot because we have a responsibility that weighs on us," the expert continued. "When your house is messy or dirty, you physically cannot escape the reminder that you will have to clean at some point, which can lead to feelings of anxiety or stress."
Realizing how happy I feel after a quick snack on the weekend is the only reason I've been following this 30-minute cleansing ritual for two years. This helps me to go forward on Saturday with the feeling that I have already won.
Whether it's putting away pots and pans, disinfecting the toilet, or vacuuming up roadside crumbs, this smart habit allows me to spend less time cleaning and more time relaxing. What are weekends for, right?
what you will need
The products you need will depend on the areas of your home you want to clean.
Everyone has their favorite products that suit them and their home. But these are some of mybest cleaning products that I use again and again (and especially on Friday afternoons).
Not only do these tried-and-true favorites help me quickly refresh my home, they also smell great and don't cost much.
- Floor Cleaner: If you, like me, have hardwood floors throughout your home, use Method's Squirt + Mop Hardwood Floor Cleaner , available on Amazon. This is the floor cleaning product I recommend . This all-in-one parquet cleaner is easy to use, smells good and is kind to the planet. All you have to do is get a reusable mop with a microfiber head, like this wet mop with a 14-ounce refillable bottle , which is a bestseller on Amazon, and lather your room with the cleaner. In just a few minutes your floors will be shiny.
- All-Purpose Cleaner: Ideally, it's a good idea to invest in a product that can be used on multiple surfaces, such as: B. the Linen Fresh disinfectant from Zoflora . Available at Walmart for $15, this must-have concentrated multitasker kills 99.9% of bacteria. It can be used on most hard surfaces and smells divine. I mix one capful of the product in a spray bottle with 400ml of water and spray it onto my kitchen worktops, marble effect side tables and handles. Then I use a microfiber cloth, like these HOMEXCEL cleaning cloths from Amazon Choice for $6, to wipe away the dirt.
- Microfiber towels : They are useful around the house. We recommend a multi-pack of microfiber cloths, available on Amazon in a variety of colors , to help you add color to your cleaning and avoid cross-contamination of naturally more soiled areas of the home.
- Vinegar or Baking Soda – Both available on Amazon for natural deodorization , homemade cleaning solutions , and easy dirt removal. Learn how to clean the house with vinegar and baking soda .
Why I vow to clean for 30 minutes every Friday
1. It's therapeutic

At least I think that's the case! With tons of emails to deal with, ideas to pitch, and articles to write, I spend the hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. sitting behind a screen, typing furiously. But I think cleaning is a good excuse for me to step away from my laptop, take a few steps, and reset my posture (and my home at the same time!).
I also cleaned when I felt overwhelmed . So taking 30 minutes on Friday has almost become a small act of self-care, which not only marks the end of the work week and the start of the weekend, but also makes me feel like I've regained some order and freedom. Space.
If you need motivation to clean , there are many ways to make cleaning fun . Whether you want to listen to music, make the cleaning process fun or encourage your family to tidy up or clean . I'm more likely to listen to a podcast or stream music.
You may also pile on tasks or double work to get things done even when you don't feel like it.
2. A little cleaning can go a long way

I'm always amazed at how much you can accomplish in 30 minutes.
Half an hour is usually enough to quickly clean my house . Most Fridays I focus on areas I know I need to get done, like changing the sheets, giving the hardwood floors a quick vacuum, and tending to the bathroom.
On other Fridays I clean the floors and remove dust.
Although 30 minutes gives me enough time to complete these tasks, I schedule more tedious kitchen cleaning tasks , like cleaning my oven or washing machine, on a monthly schedule .
To speed up my cleaning on Friday the 30th, I'm doing some basic household chores throughout the week, which Kazimierski says are "the key" to speeding up a quick cleaning session. "That way, when it's time for a quick clean, you have less to do," he says.

Who doesn't like a clean and tidy house? Especially at the beginning of the weekend when other more important projects come up, such as meeting friends or family or watching your favorite TV series.
I long ago gave up the idea that my house had to be spotless or that my cleaning routine had to be perfect. Instead, taking a quick 30 minutes on Friday to complete quick tasks helped me find the right balance when cleaning my house .
Instead of starting Saturday feeling chaotic or having forgotten something, I feel calm, collected and very happy knowing that chores are not on my to-do list.
my verdict
We are all different. So 30 minutes of cleaning on a Friday is something that works for me and my schedule. But as Kazimierski points out, the best time to brush depends on the individual. "We all feel different levels of motivation and energy at different times of the day. So the key is determining when the time is right for you."
Kazimierski recommends cleaning during the day, not before sunrise or after sunset. "Natural light contributes to the effectiveness of cleaning and makes it easier to see areas missed during dusting," adds the expert.
Either way, if you're feeling overwhelmed on the weekend by the amount of cleaning tasks you have to do, or if you're looking for ways to switch up your cleaning routine , this Friday ritual is my favorite tip to help you out. -Make the list less overwhelming .
