Now that the weather is warming up slowly and flowers begin to bloom, it's a great time of year to do something "spring cleaning" the most important part of your business - how you spend your time. One of the most valuable products of our time is our time, and often unproductive many things that our time and "head space" stuff as I like to call it.
We all make time management courses and organize most of us a form of planning or planning systems to prioritize and plan the day. The problem with these tools is that they measure the "time clock" and not "real time" only.
In real time, all the time is relative. Time flies or crawls depending on what you're doing. Two hours at the DMV can feel like 12 years. But our 12 years old children appear to have grown in just two hours.
The good news is that the actual time is mental. Between the ears. You create. Everything you think you can handle. It is time, no self-sabotage or eliminate self-limiting, with about "not enough time" or today is not the "right time" to start a new project development business, or manage to make your business more efficient current group.
I read a recent book by David Allen called "Getting Things Done" and he claims that there are only three ways to spend time: thoughts, conversations and actions. Whatever type of business you own, your work is composed of three elements. As an entrepreneur, you can be suspended or pulled in different directions frequently. Although you can not fix it, you get a say in how much time you will spend on it and how long you spend in thoughts, conversations and actions that lead to success.
Joe Mathews, Don DeBolt and Deb Percival Entrepreneur Magazine came up with nine tips to help a more effective time management. I have (with *), and the result was the conversion for me, so I invite you to try some of these tips for the next 21 days to give many of these tips, using the last seven days even as it the magic number to new behavior a habit:
Make a schedule and record your thoughts, conversations and activities for a week. This will help you to understand how much you actually for a day and where the will of your precious moments. See how actually spent a lot of time to produce results and how much time on unproductive thoughts, conversations and actions wasted. (*)
Each activity or entertainment that is important to your success has a speaking time. These lists are up to the point where they are not applicable grows. Agendas work. Make an appointment with and create blocks of time for the thoughts, conversations and actions of high priority. Plan when to start and end. Having the discipline to keep these dates. (*)
Must be at least 50 percent of their time, thoughts, activities and discussions dedicated to produce most of their results.
Take time for breaks. Take the time to be out of what you do, pulled. Take for example the concept of having "business hours". If there are no "office hours" another way of saying "planned outages?" (*)
Take the first 30 minutes each day to plan the day. Do not start the day until time to complete your plan. The highlight of his time is programmable time to time. (*)
Take five minutes before each call and the task to decide what outcome you want to achieve. Please help to know what success looks like before you start. And it's time to stop it. Take five minutes of each call and activity to determine if the desired result is achieved. If not, that's what's missing? As he gets what's missing in your next call, or activity? (*)
Set the "Do Not Disturb" if, despite all the work. (*)
Block other distractions such as Facebook and other social networks, unless you use these tools to generate business.
Remember, though, that it is impossible to do anything. Just keep in mind that the chances are high that 20 percent of his thoughts, conversations and activities produce 80 percent of your results.
