There is more than one reason why your kitchen is still rude to your bathroom: it was less frequently cleaned; keep warm, moist and full of organic matter; and you drop food on almost all surfaces. As for the worst offenders? Well, that could be the object used most frequently: the sponge.
"A sponge is a paradise for bacteria," Dr. Chuck Gerba Said, professor of microbiology at the University of Arizona. "It's wet, dark and constant pursuit of food." In addition, we use it to milk everything from meat juice to clean grease stains spills, so there are all kinds of foods for dangerous organisms such as salmonella and e. coli feed.
