A CLEANING expert revealed why you shouldn't always trust a TikTok cleaning hack you come across.

As always with Cleaning TikTok, people share tips they've found to make cleaning their home easier and keeping it smelling fresh for longer.
A trick that has grown in popularity on the app that uses the power of detergent to make your carpets smell fresher.
However, hacking can do more harm than good, as Ann explains in a video.
Ann said, "Oh honey, I understand why you're doing this, and it sounds like a brilliant idea, but here's the catch, you're not going to get all the dust off your carpet.
"That means you will have a build-up of soap powder that will be irritating if you have kids or someone walks with bare skin.
"It will make your carpet dirtier because it's sticky, I know it smells nice, but please don't use soap powder on your carpets.
"If you can afford it, get a vacuum cleaner and wash it, don't use anything because there will be a lot of soap on the carpet.
"If necessary, use something like shake and vac or baking soda."
The people in the comments then asked Ann how they could clean her carpets, to which Ann made some suggestions.
In a separate video, Ann said the best way to clean your carpet is to either use a vacuum and wash it or hire someone with a machine to do it.
Laundry dust can irritate skin and pets, so it's best not to place it on a rug.
