PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - You know about the spring cleaning and probably the old records after tax time.
Have you ever messed up your digital life? Well, there are ways to clean up your online world that can help you spend more time on your day.
Julie Grant from KDKA-TV talked to Professor Patrick Juola, a computer expert and professor at Duquesne University, about simple tips on digital confusion.
"Storage space is cheap, nobody cares about many files on your computer, what bothers you is many files you can not find, but you must search to find them." That really interests you, "said Dr. Juola.
So, a tip is to get rid of what you do not use.
"Look at all the programs you have installed on your computer, especially those programs that you do not know well, and ask yourself if you really need them," Dr. Juola.
The next tip is to clean your desk.
"Most people do not find anything on their desks, if you want to have five seconds, make sure you have a clean desk on the computer and in real life," Dr. Juola. ,
Then determine how much time you spend online.
"Facebook and other social media platforms are very good at playing small, subtle mental games so you can spend more and more time online," said Drs. Juola.
Also delete the unused accounts.
"Yes, I have about three or four e-mail accounts that I have no idea what the password is," said Elizabeth Vaughn.
"I have about 20 e-mail accounts, but half do not know the information, the passwords I lost," Walker said.
Speaking of e-mail, do not forget these old e-mails.
"If you have not read this e-mail since your arrival six months ago, you will not read it, but get rid of it," Dr. Juola.
So, what about all the photos you probably have?
"Sometimes I take my pictures off my cell phone and put them on my laptop because sometimes I run out of data on my phone," Vaughn said.
One way to solve this problem is to buy an external hard drive and secure what you want to keep.
"A 4 terabyte hard drive costs about 100 euros at Best Buy, this hard drive stores calls of one million pictures, how many pictures do you need in your life?" Juola.
Also, ask yourself if you really need a unit in the cloud when saving to an external hard drive.
Dr. Juola thinks they are a useless exhibition.
"The more you know what you do in the cyber world, the more you can track what happens," Dr. Juola.
Last but not least, remember that you can not enjoy life to the fullest if your devices always consume you.
