More dirt, more cleaning

It is not expensive to have multiple dust collectors near your computer to minimize the amount of dust. If I do not have any words left for this column, I'll take my rag and clean my gear as therapy for the writing pad. Writer or not, you must reserve a few minutes before you begin to clean your computer's session. Let us follow our advice to take care of the equipment:

Clean the monitor
Dirt, fingerprints and dust can make reading your computer screen difficult. However, it is easy to clean the screen if necessary. There are monitor cleaning kits that you can buy, but they can damage your monitor if they are designed for a different type of monitor. For example, a glass screen cleaner may not work with some LCD screens without glass. The safest method is to use a soft, clean, water-soaked cloth.

Do not use a glass cleaner to clean a monitor. Many screens have glare-free coatings that can be damaged by the glass cleaner.

- Turn off the computer.

- Disconnect the monitor from the power supply. If you are using a laptop, disconnect the laptop.

- Use a soft, clean cloth moistened with water to clean the screen.

Do not spray liquid directly on the screen. The liquid could get into the monitor and damage the internal components.

Tips for cleaning other surfaces of the computer
Dust is the main enemy of your computer. If you do not believe me, stop reading this and remove the back or side of your case and look inside. If you have not done so lately, you'll be surprised how much dust there is.

From time to time, clean the computer case and the sides and back of the monitor to avoid dust and dirt. Here are some tips you can use to clean these surfaces.

- Use an antistatic cloth to remove dust from the computer case. Do not use furniture cleaners or strong solvents.

- Use a box of compressed air to remove debris from the air intake slots. A small hand vacuum cleaner helps to control dust.

- Ammonia diluted with water or glass cleaner consists mainly of ammonia and water and is a safe cleaning solution for the surfaces of the computer. The softer the solution, the better.

- Clean the housing and monitor housing (but not the screen) by spraying a clean cleaning solution on a paper towel or antistatic cloth and cleaning it.

stay cool
It's a big deal: many of us throw papers or other items into the computer, not knowing how much they are blocking the flow of air. Do not limit the airflow around your computer. A computer can generate a lot of heat, so the case has fans that prevent overheating. Do not block the air flow in the housing. Avoid stacking papers, books, and other items on your computer. Any unpleasant things can happen on your desk.

Many computer tables have a closed compartment for the computer case. If you have this type of desk, you can place the case so that it is not against the back of the desk. If the compartment has a door, you can leave it open to improve the airflow. For laptops you should not put them directly in your lap. Let the bottom of the laptop breathe between you and your laptop with a book or other hard object.
