How to clean jewelry

In the days of the coronavirus, keeping your hands clean has become increasingly important. However, it is just as important to make sure that your jewelry is bacteria-free and looks new.

How to clean jewelry

Ben Stinson, an expert at Diamonds Factory, Hatton Garden's premier jewelry store, explained how jewelry should be cleaned.

Mr. Stinson said you can take care of your jewelry with a simple six step guide.

The first thing to do is to check the condition of your jewelry.

Mr Stinson said, "We recommend using a children's toothbrush as it is generally softer. However, remember to keep this toothbrush only for cleaning jewelry and not for other purposes."

"Remember to brush the bottom of the diamond base as a lot of dirt can build up on the base that the diamond is mounted on."

In the fourth step, rinse the jewelry under running water.

Once this is done, dry the jewelry well with a fresh, clean linen or cotton cloth.

Stinson said the cleaning process for your jewelry should be repeated every seven days.

He said, "This process can be repeated once a week to avoid oil and product buildup.

"However, it is recommended that you use your diamonds and jewelry twice a year for professional cleaning.

"To avoid having to clean your items more than once a week, we recommend removing your jewelry every time you wash your hands with soap, antibacterial gel, or polish."
