"This new benchmark-class MC cartridge is the result of two years of research into all aspects of cartridge design," said Jeff Sigmund, President of Luxman America. "Our LMC-5 was developed to satisfy the most discerning music listener with a unique level of fidelity; the result of careful material evaluations, repeated prototyping and extensive listening tests. The resulting sound quality needs to be heard to be appreciated.
The new pickup, which has a list price of $2695, features a solid square-shank Shibata stylus mounted on a low-mass 0.5mm aluminum cantilever. Also according to the press release:
"The MC generator contains a cross-mounted iron core in which the left and right coils are symmetrically wound for better channel separation. In order to achieve perfectly even coil windings with minimal moving mass, the coils themselves are even thinner than piano wire." Luxman chose the coils made from the finest Urethane Enamel Wire (UEW) with a diameter of 30 microns. Because the coil and magnetic field are exceptionally compact, the cartridge is very resistant to external noise."
Plus: "The precision-machined aluminum barrel is anodized in a deep red, Luxman's corporate color, with a laser-etched Luxman 'L' on the front. In the best tradition of Japanese cartridge manufacturing, each cartridge is carefully assembled by Luxman craftsmen and shipped to music lovers around the world."
More features will be included in a future revision. The press release doesn't include output voltage or other specs, but a reader got them from the Luxman website and they're below, so thanks.
