Take action with these 25 tips to become a clear entrepreneur

Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own.

Winter's transition to warmer temperatures reminds us of tulips, clocks "winding up" and walks in the park. But beyond the blooming of nature, spring is also present in purification. We're all reminded of the springtime rituals associated with our homes, including decluttering, dusting all the places we usually overlook, and deep cleaning everything from our kitchen to our bathrooms.

Below I've listed a few reasons why entrepreneurs can benefit from a deep cleansing of their lives, along with 25 ideas to kickstart the process in their digital, professional, personal, personal and financial spheres.

Why you should spring clean your life

  • As entrepreneurs, we often suffer from decision fatigue. Our brains get clogged with an endless stream of stuff. Having a clean and tidy environment, both physically and mentally, gives you more room in your brain to process whatever comes your way.
  • Getting your life in order can save you money, and who doesn't want to save up some loose change? For the lucky few enterprising unicorns, finances may be a second thought. But most of us need to track our spending down to the last penny.
  • The relief I felt after spring cleaning my life is something I wish I could bottle and sell. Getting your life in order will make you feel a lot better and at least a percent happier, believe me!

25 ideas to start your spring cleaning

your digital life

  1. Organize your files - Search your Dropbox, Google Drive or other cloud storage files and organize all your digital files.
  2. Use the unfollow button: cleaning up your social media is more important than you think. Unfollow or unfollow people in your feed who annoy you or compare your life in unhealthy ways.
  3. Free up storage space: Photos and videos take up a lot of space on our phones and computers. Get rid of the ones you don't need right away by deleting them or moving them to secure cloud storage.
  4. Inventory apps: Scan all downloaded apps on your phone and delete the ones you no longer use. You can always add them later.
  5. NOT FOLLOWING: Remember when you wanted this free download to increase your social media followers? Did you order something from Target? You are now on their list alongside many others. Email subscriptions create a bit of clutter in your inbox, and if you're anything like me you rarely open email. Unsubscribe completely or adjust your subscription to reduce email frequency.

your professional life

  1. Clean up your office: Spring cleaning isn't just for your home. Give your workspace a deep clean whether you work in an office or from home. Take the time to put things away and consider rearranging your office setup to maximize productivity.
  2. Update Your Bio - You never know when you'll be looking for a job, asking for an interview, or anything else that might require you to share your credentials and experiences. There's no harm in having easy access to your work history and achievements if you wish.
  3. Forget it: as an entrepreneur, one of the best lessons you can learn is how to delegate. Find out what tasks others can do and tick those items off your to-do list.
  4. Scan your inbox - You probably have way more emails in your inbox than you need. Take the time to delete what you no longer need, or create folders in your inbox to organize email by specific project, client, or task.
  5. Just say no: you can decline meetings, calls and emails to focus on the things that are important to you. Consider only checking your email at certain times of the day and leaving meetings where they're not needed.

your life at home

  1. Fix What's Broken: Fix any item in your house that needs fixing. If you can't do this, hire someone to help you. Make sure you also have basic items like a hammer, screwdrivers, tape measure, flashlight, and batteries.
  2. Clean out your closet: Throw away any items in your closet that don't fit, no longer fit, or are no longer needed, donate, or sell them.
  3. Check your meds: It's good to have meds on hand if you have a minor injury or catch a cold. But having an expired medication can be dangerous for you and your family. Throw away what's expired and make a list of what needs to be replaced.
  4. Dust: Don't forget to do your usual spring cleaning of your home, paying special attention to deep cleaning of windows, kitchen and bathroom. Establish a weekly or bi-weekly schedule for dusting, washing, and cleaning the bathrooms.
  5. Move the Energy: This time of year is great for new beginnings, even if you're not physically moving. If you have the money, consider updating your living space with a fresh coat of paint, throw pillows, and houseplants.

your financial life

  1. Reduce Your Debt – Take stock of your credit card debt. Find out if you can lower your interest rates or potentially move your balance to an interest-free card.
  2. Stop giving away free money: Take stock of your monthly subscriptions and make sure you're using them and not just giving away free money.
  3. Set a budget - You can't set a budget if you don't have one, so let's start with that. Create a manageable budget that you can stick to that includes both your mandatory and optional expenses.
  4. Check creditworthiness: When was the last time you checked your creditworthiness? Do you know your credit score? Check the reports with all three credit bureaus and make sure there are no inaccuracies that you need to correct.
  5. Say no to late fees - set up automatic bill payments so you don't have to worry about late or missing payments. Another option to consider is that most creditors will allow you to change your due dates so that all of your bills are due at the same time of the month.

your private life

  1. PLAN YOUR MEALS - Create a handful of healthy weekly meal plans to stick to with the foods you love. This will save you money on takeout and keep your weight off. It will also be one less thing to think about during the day.
  2. Make your mental health a priority: finally commit to being more conscious of your mental and physical health. Often overlooked, self-care is really important. Consider a therapist, a daily meditation practice, or short walks if you're feeling stressed.
  3. Go to the Doctor: Do You Have High Cholesterol? Blood sugar at dangerous levels? You will only know if you are being checked. Be proactive about your physical health and see your GP at least once a year (virtually or in person) to make sure your body is healthy.
  4. Get a Safe - Find and keep your social security card, birth and marriage certificates, property titles, and other important documents in one safe place.
  5. Hire an Attorney: We all hate to think morbidly, but if your life ended tomorrow, would your loved ones know how to sort out your estate? Find a lawyer and create or update wills, powers of attorney or other legal matters, such as B. Your life insurance.

And some extras...

  1. Dance Party: Create an exclusive playlist that will make you feel good, motivated and happy.
  2. Turn off the TV: Read the books you keep saying you will and never will read. Spend a little less time watching TV or the Internet and a little more time reading.
  3. Choose Forgiveness: Apologize to those who have offended you and forgive those who have offended you. If you don't feel comfortable contacting people directly, write them a letter and then email it if you decide to send it in the future.
