More than 50 stickers have been placed on sidewalks across the area, including Gloucester, in Hampton Roads to keep litter, noxious chemicals and debris out of the local storm sewers that direct the water into the streams.
Stickers for "Every Day We Love the Bay" and "We Protect the Coast We Love Most" were posted by askHRgreen.org advocates who work to prevent pollution from waste and rainwater.
"We wanted to highlight everyone's connection to our local waterways," said Katie Cullipher, team leader at askHRgreen.org. "Bay Cleanup Day happens once a year, but here at Hampton Roads we are surrounded by water every day. Even if you don't live on the water, you are never far away, and our actions can affect Chesapeake Bay and local waterways.
With a majestic heron and live crab on a purple background, the only showers in the storm drainage system are acceptable for keeping the waterways of Hampton Roads clean and safe.
