Summer is here and the COVID-19 restrictions are being lifted, which means we can finally celebrate with our friends and family all the opportunities we missed.
While many of us hibernate our grills, Chef Michael Gray, M&M Food Market Product Innovation Manager, is here to help Canadians enjoy the grilling season with helpful tips on avoiding common grilling mistakes.
Gray told Yahoo Lifestyle Canada that cleaning your grill in the spring is extremely important.
"Cleaning is a critical step and barbecue enthusiasts and professionals alike tend to ignore it," said Gray.
Gray suggests removing debris from last season to avoid grease burns and horrible tasting food, and always double-check that your grill is in good condition and clean before lighting it.
"Wooden scrapers are ideal for safety reasons. You don't have a scraper? No problem. A foil ball is a surprisingly effective scrubbing tool, "added Gray.
When asked about tips for a successful BBQ season, Dara Greenberg, BBQ Expert at Home Depot Canada, told Yahoo Lifestyle Canada that barbecuing is about new ways of cooking and having fun.
"Consider building up your arsenal of accessories to expand the reach of your kitchen, from hamburgers and hot dogs to a full meal. You can buy grill baskets, ribs, cedar boards ... the list goes on, "Greenberg said. "And investing in a wireless thermometer is always a good buy because it will help you prepare your food perfectly!
When it comes to buying gas grills, Greenberg says it is important to think about how many people you are cooking for and how often you will be using your grill.
"For example, if you have a family of 4 and plan to grill more than 3 times a week during the spring / summer season, then you need to make sure you are looking for grills with at least 3 burners and with 'a solid guarantee of that Protection. Your investment, "Greenberg suggested.
"You also need to think about the type of food you want to cook. For example, if you enjoy cooking chicken you might want to consider a grill to add to a rotisserie set, or if you like to sear your steak, find a grill with a browning station, "added Greenberg.
