A semi-trailer with 73 tons of cotton covers fell over on Monday at around 1.30 a.m. on Highway 160 in Tecumseh. Tecumseh Volunteer Fire Brigade's assistant fire chief JB Duke said the truck driver, an acquaintance, called him and told him the truck had rolled on its side on Tecumseh Hill as it drove west.
"We'd just got back from another accident where a guy in Arkansas rolled his car on Smokey Road and then I got a call," Duke said Monday afternoon.
Duke reported the semi-accident to the Ozark County Sheriff's Department, and a dispatcher named Tecumseh VFD, the Ozark County Sheriff's Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Ozark County Ambulance dispatched them to the scene of the accident.
Duke said neither driver was injured in the two accidents, but it took time to clean the trailer. Midway Towing from Pomona came to tow the truck and trailer, and Duke and his TVFD firefighter comrades Jonathan and Nathanael Winrod, who also own Winrod Construction, used their large trucks and equipment to clean and move the husks of cottonseed.
The Ozark County Sheriff's report shows that first responders left the crash site just before 5 a.m. on Monday, three and a half hours after the call was received.
"Well, the road is wide enough for the truck and trailer to lie on their side when driving around," said Duke, referring to the ongoing construction project to widen the winding stretch of the highway. 160. "I don't know." when it's easier for the driver but it was definitely easier for us to clean it.
