Daily Tip: Update your mattress and remove stains with these tips - The Citizen

We spend a lot of time in our bed, so it's a bit worrisome that not many of us brush it as often as we should.

We understand that cleaning a mattress can be intimidating because of its size and bulk, but there is no reason why you can't step in the process and freshen up your mattress, clean it thoroughly and finally remove those stains.

Not only do you enjoy the feeling of snuggling up against fresh sheets and a better-smelling mattress, but you also extend the life of your mattress by taking care of it.

According to Express UK , it can contain around 500g of dead skin as dry, dead skin cells are naturally shed while you sleep. Bed bugs and other microscopic creatures that live deep within tissues love to nibble on debris.

That includes all of the sweat that gets there as well as things that can sometimes get on the bed if you're the type who drinks for a snack.

How to clean your mattress and remove stains

You may not have to do this as often as you wash your sheets and pillows, but it is important that you take the time to thoroughly clean your bed from time to time.

Express UK recommends that you "give your mattress some nice fresh air every now and then" as this can prevent it from smelling.

As with large, cloth-covered items in your home, the easiest way to clean your bed is to vacuum it.

It would be even better if you had a vacuum cleaner with an upholstery attachment that can remove dirt while you clean.

You can sprinkle baking soda or fabric cooling power over the mattress before vacuuming to give it that new smell.

When cleaning, don't skip the underside of your mattress as it will get dirty too. For stains, take a little liquid detergent or a small amount of washing powder with water, soak a clean cloth in the solution and gently rub the stain.

It is best not to get the rag too wet while doing this, and it would also be a good idea to do this on a day when you don't have to use the bed right away to air and dry it. .

Or you can just call the pros to get the job done.
