A woman who posted an "ironing accident" on Instagram proved that a surprising trick to removing burnt-on residue from an iron actually works.
The owner of her favorite clothing store had ironed an elastic waistband that left red stains on her iron.
So she tried a Panadol trick recommended by Nicole Gibson of Söka Australia and shared the results on her Instagram page @roundroundthegarden .
Before and after photos, as well as a picture of the Panadol tablet, show how well the iron was cleaned.
"Iron is back in action, like new!" They captioned their Instagram post.
Söka Australia posted the step-by-step guide to the trick, along with an Instagram reel showing the process .
Nicole advised that you need an uncoated Panadol tablet, but any uncoated acetaminophen should work for this, tweezers or a metal needle and an old rag or rag.
Next, you'll need to heat the iron before rubbing the pad back and forth along the burn marks.

"It will melt instantly and then wipe clean with a slightly damp cloth (don't use a good microfiber cloth as the heat from the iron will damage the fibers)," Nicole wrote in the post.
"This is one of my favorite things to do at the laundromat!"
Söka Australia supporters loved the handy tip, which is one of many shared by Nicole on her Instagram page.
"Oh I'm trying this," one said in the comments.
"Great and very helpful," wrote another.
"It's incredible! Who knows?!"
