Did you hear the news? As the title suggests, James Guthrie's Pink Floyd's Animals 2018 Remix is finally out on 16th September on 180g LP via Pink Floyd Records/Sony Music. A deluxe gatefold multidisc version with 1LP/1CD/1DVD/1BD will follow on October 7th.
Here's the facts: Pink Floyd's tenth studio album, Animals , released in January 1977, was first remixed by the band's producer and sound engineer James Guthrie for what was officially titled Animals 2018 Remix . The album was remastered for vinyl by Guthrie, Joel Plante and Bernie Grundman.
In addition to the 180g black vinyl gatefold release, Animals 2018 Remix will also be available on standalone CD, Blu-ray and SACD. The deluxe gatefold multi-disc release includes an LP, CD, DVD and Blu-ray along with a 32-page booklet. Both the Blu-ray and DVD contain the 2018 remix in stereo and 5.1 (both by James Guthrie) as well as the original 1977 stereo mix. The 32-page booklet includes rarely seen behind-the-scenes photos from the set . . the album art, as well as live recordings and other Floyd memorabilia. the
Speaking of animal illustration, you'll recall that the original cover photo shows an inflatable pig (now known as Algie) floating between two smokestacks at London's Battersea Power Station, designed by bassist/vocalist Roger Waters and long ago owned by Floyd was constructed. Employee. , the late Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis Studios.
For this new release, Storm's partner at Hipgnosis, Aubrey "Po" Powell, has reimagined the artwork for the modern age. Po snapped new photos of the building as it looked during its recent renovation, experimenting with new angles to create stunning new shots of the classic original. As Po said in Pink Floyd's PR team's official press release, "Because the original 1977 album cover is such an iconic work of art in its own right, I was fortunate enough to update it, which was quite a daunting task," but Hipgnosis capitalized on it took the opportunity to re-photograph the image to reflect a changing world and using modern digital colorization techniques [highly sought after British spelling - MM] I preserved Pink Floyd's rather dark message of moral decadence using the Orwellian themes of animals [and ] the pig 'Algie', true to the album's message.
Acoustic Sounds Senior Dome Chad Kassem told me directly yesterday (i.e. July 7th) that in quotation marks " animals are big news because they have become our best sellers since they were published on our website ." Considering how much I love how Pink Floyd's catalog releases, not to mention Roger Waters' September 1992 solo album Amused to Death , have sounded on their vinyl reissues over the past few years (and not just because I love Floyd's seen The Endless ). River firsthand as in 2014), I'm expecting some really exceptional stuff from this edition of Animals 2018 Remix , and I'll be personally reviewing it here on Analog Planet when it comes out.
