After the heavy rains leave the area, Albert Lea and the surrounding communities are focused on the cleanup effort.
Various rain reports show between 4 and 6 inches, with the highest rainfall total of 5.87 inches at Albert Lea, which falls from Pickerel St.
With all the rain that fell within a few hours, several houses in the area were damaged. One of those people was Robin Dooley.
"I couldn't see that, I could barely see the top of the stands. Like I said, this whole place looked like a huge lake. This whole area, around the corner from my house, was 10 to 8 inches or more. ' Dooley said.
In other parts of the city, the damage was so great that specialists had to be called in.
Experts say homeowners should apply for flood insurance if they live in floodplains or other flood-prone areas. They also recommend taking photos of your basement so insurance companies know what needs to be replaced.
And of course, stay away from flooded basements, as anything plugged in could electrocute the water. In about a week, most houses should be dry. Asset recovery will likely take much longer.
