It's as simple as filling your room with a few tablespoons of salt, pouring in half a cup of alcohol and stirring it all up. Some tips for a more pleasant cleaning experience:

- Get a box of disposable latex gloves. Nobody likes the smell of old bong resin.

- First run hot water through the pipes for a minute or two to soften the resin. If the piece is small, get bacon tongs so you don't burn yourself.

- Plastic swabs are great for those tight spots. Paper swabs tend to break, so avoid them.

- If you have trouble with parts like bowls and slides, soak them in alcohol in an old jar overnight. Give them another warm water bath in the morning and then try the salt alcohol shake.
