MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) - While COVID-19, also known as coronavirus, is spreading, doctors say you may want to change your behavior so you don't get sick.
Dr. Hammad Haider-Shah, medical director of the Aurora West Allis Medical Center, recommends social distance to stop the infectious virus.
"One of the things we want to change is not shaking hands, just nudging," he said. "When you cough, the particles that come out range from 3 to 6 feet ... so your ability to become infected with a virus decreases significantly as you move away from others."
A shock may not be enough for those affected, a tap on the foot may be appropriate.
According to the CDC, humans may be able to capture COVID-19 by touching a surface that the virus is on.
So what should you do in public?
"You want to avoid large crowds because you don't know who is near you," said Dr. Haider-Shah.
And in the gym? The Wisconsin Athletic Club says it's best to practice good hygiene.
"We have plenty of additional hand sanitizer, Kleenex, available throughout the club, and we asked our employees to take many different cleaning initiatives," said Dan Hanson, general manager of the Wisconsin Athletic Club - Downtown.
Regarding grocery stores, Metro Market and Pick N 'Save emailed customers saying they were cleaning and disinfecting self-service kiosks, shopping carts, and grocery counters.
After visiting the public, health officials recommend washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, even after coughing, blowing your nose, or sneezing.
