"We have increased the cleanliness of the toilets, the cleanliness of all contact points - doors, switches, etc. - where people come into contact," said Ed Ratuski, general manager of the Kamloops airport. "[We] make sure we have a lot of hand sanitizers at the airport."
Travelers are reminded of good hygiene habits because fear continues to spread much faster than the current virus. So far, a local travel agency has not found any major disruptions in most travel plans.
"We had some cancellations. People change [their plans] but often they just change the dates, "says Sonja Thomas, director of the Vision Travel office." Other than that, just a lot of questions. "
Thomas believes that protecting some travelers is a higher priority after some of the best known cases of COVID-19.
"We saw crazy things on some cruise ships, but they started out," says Thomas. "Now the countries are coming there. The airlines take over the cruise ships. Hopefully we see less and less. ""
Ratuski says there are essential steps that travelers need to take to protect themselves:
"Hygiene. Hand hygiene, don't touch your mouth, ears or eyes. Something like that," says Ratuski. "Just be careful what you have in your hands and follow these steps when traveling."
It is also recommended that you stay informed of all travel advice by accessing the latest information from the Canadian government.
"Visit the Global Affairs website [Canada]. This is where the latest information for travelers is located, "says Ratuski. "[There are] goals people should avoid or safe places to travel."
What happens if you travel to a country with confirmed cases of the new corona virus? The BC Disease Control Center suggests that residents traveling abroad to check their health abroad and upon their return. If these travelers have cold or flu symptoms, they should stay away from the others and contact their doctor for more information on the next steps.
