An Australian mother raised her concern after making an alarming discovery in her bathroom .
On a popular Facebook page, homeowner Jane said she recently learned that bacteria in your toilet can move through the air every time you flush.
A recent study from the Florida Atlantic University College of Engineering and Computer Science found that redness can cause large amounts of germs from urine, vomit, and feces to spread through the air, up to 1.5 meters.
Jane said she was particularly concerned about potential health risks as her toothbrushes were in a cup on the bathroom table near the toilet.
"I just learned that germs and feces / urine particles from the toilet flush are wandering around the room and lurking on the toothbrush when exposed," he wrote on the Cleaning & Organizing Inspiration Australia page.
"I've always had mine like this !! HELP! How do you keep your toothbrushes clean and safe, but without that disgust? "
Many Facebook users were quick to make suggestions for Jane to reduce her risk.
"You always have to close the lid when you flush the toilet. It doesn't matter where you are or where your toothbrushes are, "said one.
Another added, "However, you are very close to your bathroom. If this is your only space, I'd rather store it in the shower basket or closet.
A third wrote: "Before washing up, close the lid and maybe put it in a small closet to store toothbrushes." "
But while some said they would only live in houses that have a toilet in a separate room from the bathroom, others weren't as concerned.
"Ignorance is happiness"
"These same particles are everywhere, in your towels and clothes and in your food," one wrote.
"You can move your toothbrush if it makes you feel better. But honestly, that's not going to do much.
Another said, "Ignorance is a blessing. I don't need this knowledge!
A third added: "Good! It will boost your immune system, won't it? "
Another wrote: "And yet ... no one will ever get sick from it!"
