The five schools in a district in Monmouth County will be closed on Friday after an obvious stomach virus has brought many students home.
The decision to shut down schools in Ocean Township was made "as a precautionary measure" based on numerous reports of abdominal pain in the city's middle school, Superintendent Jim Stefankiewicz said Thursday. ,
"We close as a precaution and do a thorough cleaning of all facilities," he said.
According to Stefankiewicz, about 45% of the students left on Thursday. Fifth-grade students were among the most severely ill hospitals that did not affect other schools in the district.
"The rumors that the students had to throw up (the high school) were completely unfounded ," Stefankiewicz said in a letter to the parents .
The number of absences in the university has been significantly higher since at least Wednesday, the authorities said. The school generally welcomes around 6% of the students on a given day.
"We work together to make sure we make the right decisions for our schools based on district and state health policies," said the Superintendent.
Christopher Amato, director of Ocean Township High School, said after the cancellation of school activities on Wednesday.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the teams cleaned schools and buses in the district.
Stefankiewicz urged parents to leave their children at home for illness symptoms and to dress well to wash their hands.
