CHRISTMAS is a distant memory, the nights are getting lighter and therefore there is no better time to prepare your home for spring.
I think we're all looking forward to happier times.
I strongly believe in "little and often" to keep up with housework, but every now and then I do a great clean and it brings me to life.
Move your beds and couches around and really step into those nooks and crannies. Just knowing it's done is amazing. This time of year is also great for tidying up and getting rid of unused items - very satisfying.
My followers know that I have a passion for smells - I could walk into your house and know what to wash your sheets on right away. This time of year I love flowers, so I love lavender, flowers and jasmine. I've melted my wax and I can't wait to put the clothes on the rope.
The best advice I can give you is not to get overwhelmed trying to do it all at once. Break it down into parts - use your Hinch lists to help - then check them out over the next few weeks.
I love to see you give up so share what you've done. In the meantime, grab your minky and let's break it down.
sofa
To be honest, it doesn't take long for your sofa to look like new.
Remove all pillows and blankets and vacuum up any crumbs (and the unnamable ones that hide in them). Use a body brush and lint roller to remove lint and hair.
Mix warm water with an upholstery cleaner of your choice. Dip a white cloth in your mixture, wring it out, and use it to scrub the seats, arms, and back of the sofa.
Make sure to test a test area first. Let it air dry, put everything back in place, and voila.
bed
There's nothing like snuggling up in a bed with clean sheets. So why not check that you are free from the smelly and dreamy smell?
Wash your pillows! I do this twice a year. As long as they don't foam, you can just toss them in the washing machine on a delicate cycle. Be sure to check the label for specific washing instructions.
Then you should be able to put them in the dryer and they will look great.
Give your mattress some love by removing the bed and vacuuming first.
Food cabinets
What is hidden on the floor of kitchen cabinets? Five years later there is still a box of spaghetti rings. I would love to hear the most random food you can find ...
Empty the cabinets completely and check the expiration dates of all food. Spray the inside of the cabinets with diluted disinfectant (Zoflora or Fabulosa) and pat dry. I love my Lakeland Expandable Shelving Organizer, which means you can stack your canned goods and view everything easily.
After vacuuming, use a colander to evenly shake a conservative amount of baking soda onto the mattress. This little miracle worker will get rid of stubborn odors.
You can even add some of your favorite essential oils to the baking soda to enhance the taste. Let rest for a few hours, then vacuum. Finish with a Febreze Spritz - perfect!
fridge
During the closure, the refrigerator is a place that we visit several times a day. As one of the toughest items in the house, it could benefit from a spruce top. I like to do this when we have a grocery store.
Erase everything to get a blank canvas. I use refrigerator liners that are cheap on eBay and will protect your refrigerator from spills. Remove liners, shelves, and drawers and soak them in Fairy dish soap (antibacterial eucalyptus is my favorite).
Clean the interior with your minky and cleaner. I like Flash Bicarb or Astonish Clear Disinfectant, but dish soap works too.
Use a cotton swab to clean between the rubber door seals. I like to leave a small plate of baking soda to absorb smells.
organization
Whether it's clothes, toys, or just plain bobs, sort what you want and what to give to your friends or bring to the charity store or recycling bins. For sentimental reasons, I've kept some of the baby outfits Ronnie was wearing, but they'd better be swapped for a small one.
Use vacuum bags to store winter clothes and coats in the attic or under the bed so they don't take up storage space.
Be strict with yourself! If you haven't used anything in a year, pass it on.
I love the drawer organizers for keeping clothes clean, tidy and easily accessible. I find them especially useful for Ron's pieces and for sorting things out like underwear and even makeup.
oven
It's not the most glamorous job, but there is the best before and after!
Remove all of the screens, spray with Fairy Power Spray or elbow grease, and let it soak.
I've been known to use the tub for this, or one of those amazing wire mesh bowls if you have one.
Take your pot of Pink Stuff and your scrub daddy and remove all of those stubborn stains from the inside of the oven and glass. Sometimes a baking sheet scraper works fine here if it's really burned.
Rinse with warm water and allow to air dry.
For the exterior of the door, I like to use elbow grease, followed by Astonish Window & Glass Cleaner with Kermit (the unbeatable Minky M Cloth Glass and Window) for extra shine.
One little trick I love to use is to line the bottom of my oven with my eBay oven liners. They catch all residue and are very easy to clean in the sink.
