Old Fashioned Clean Hate Week Begins: Basketball Makes Sense - Dawg Sports

So yeah, there's another game with Charleston Southern to do tomorrow , but tonight we can focus on clean, old-fashioned hatred. With the biennial invasion of Bobby Dodd and The Field Mark Richt Owns slated for after Thanksgiving, we can thank Tom Crean and his Hoop Dawgs for announcing the festivities to Stegeman at 9 a.m. tonight.

Then Josh Pastner and his version of the Yellow Jackets will try to secure their first win against a Dawg team led by Crean. Last year that rivalry stopped in a season when Tech won the ACC (who would have thought that?). Two years ago, Rayshaun Hammonds paved the way to victory in Athens, and last season Nicholas Claxton and friends triumphed in Atlanta. The Dawgs have a five-game winning streak against their national competition. While I haven't asked much of Tom Crean yet, not for a spot in the NCAA, not in the top half of the SEC, but I'm going to ask him not to lose 2-1 to Georgia Tech, it should be a pretty well played game .

Tech joins after losing his first game of the season in Miami (of Ohio) but moved on with Stetson (Deland University, Florida, reassurance) and Lamar (a university in Beaumont, TX; they didn't play 1-1 against your neighbors on the street). The Dawgs also lost to Ohio-based Cincinnati, defeating Florida International and South Carolina State.

The technology is led by Michael DeVoe, a two-time All-ACC (Honorable Mention) player who averages 18 points per night off the wing. He averaged over 16 last year and is a quality road shooter. Senior "Super" (aka Comeback for Year 6) Jordan Usher works at F averaging 13 points and 9 rebounds early in the season. He was 11 and 4 years old last year in his senior year. Junior Kyle Sturidvant at PG and Senior Khalid Moore at F are also in the wings, but freshman winger Deebo Coleman and PG Deivon Smith, a second transfer from Mississippi St, have played more minutes so far this season.

To complete his main rotation and start at C, Rodney Howard will be a familiar face. The junior began his university career in Athens before moving to tech last year.

Crean appears to have agreed on a rotation consisting of a freshman, a previous replacement, and the remaining new transfers. Super Senior Aaron Cook (by Gonzaga) starts at PG and averages 14 points, 8+ assists and 2 steals per game so far this evening. Braelen Bridges, 6'11 Center and Fifth Year Senior (who can return next year for a sixth "Super Senior" season thanks to NCAA Covid rules) averaged 16 points and 8 rebounds. 6'7 F Jaylin Ingram, another super senior from Florida Atlantic (and Morgan County); and 6'4 goalie and highlight nailer Kario Oquendo, a sophomore who attended Florida Southwestern State Junior College in his early years excelled, have joined Cook and Bridges on the grid for all 3 games and they all average over 25 minutes a night.

Jaxon Etter played from the bench for more than 20 minutes a night while first grader Christian Wright scored just under 5 points a night for around 17 minutes from the bench. The fifth starting point in the last two games was former Southern Cal winger Noah Baumann after Jabri Abdur-Rahim kicked off the opener. Fifth grader Baumann is tied with Cook in the team leadership with 3 points, while Virginia's second student Abdur-Rahim has had difficulty getting a shot this year, but earns a higher-caliber score. F from the bank when he got back on track.

Tonight's game kicks off just after 9 p.m. with SEC coverage beginning for those unable to secure seats on Stegeman. This will begin the televised portion of the Georgia non-conference program. Since today's game on the SEC network will be followed by a trip to the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on a Monday, ESPNU broadcast a game against Virginia at 7:00 in the Legends Classic, followed by a game on ESPN 2nd against Northwestern or Providence on Tuesday . . Wofford will be in Athens on November 28th at 4am before the Dawgs receive a popular Memphis Tigers team on SEC Network on December 1st.
