How to Clean Crocodiles | Wirecutter Reviews - The New York Times

When I ventured outside, I turned the shoes over to a backyard Wirecutter editor, who vigorously rubbed the Crocs down with mud and grass, then left them for two days. As with the southern red clay, the dirt went away immediately, but the grass stains proved more difficult. Rubbing with Dawn wasn't enough, but a toothbrush with mild detergent lightened the green stains a bit. He then made a paste of baking soda and water and let the solution sit for a while before adding vinegar. A greenish-brown tint was still visible after further rubbing, so he let the Crocs air dry for several hours while researching other cleaning methods to try. When he returned he was pleasantly surprised to see that the stain had almost entirely disappeared. We contacted the company to find out why this happened, but they didn't respond to our questions.
