There are certain cleaning techniques that you should avoid if you want to keep your home in good condition and avoid breaking your appliances and utensils.
Professional cleaner Kaylie has listed five cleaning mistakes you should never make.
DO NOT USE STEAM ON WOOD FLOORS
As unsealed parquet floors can be damaged by excessive moisture, you should not use a steam cleaner on them.
Kaylie advised cleaning the floor with just water until the buildup of cleaning products that make it sticky is gone.
DO NOT PUT WOOD IN THE DISHWASHER
According to Kaylie, wooden utensils like spoons, bowls and cutting boards should never be washed in the dishwasher.
Wood can warp and deteriorate when exposed to high temperatures and moisture for long periods of time.
Wooden utensils should be hand washed in hot soapy water and towel dried.
DO NOT MIX BLEACH AND VINEGAR
When cleaning, you should never combine vinegar and bleach.
Chlorine gas is produced when bleach and vinegar are combined, which can cause coughing, shortness of breath, and burning and watery eyes.
DO NOT USE HARD SPONGES ON STAINLESS STEEL
According to Kaylie, you should never use a scouring pad to clean your stainless steel appliances.
Scraping the grit on these surfaces with coarse sponges, like the yellow ones with green scouring pads, could spoil their appearance.
DO NOT BLEACH WOODEN TOILET SEATS
Painted wooden seats require special cleaning and care.
Since bleach damages the fabric, you shouldn't use it, Kaylie continued.
Only use a mild detergent such as washing-up liquid to clean the toilet seat.
