Of course I would not expect a man from my humble station to use a cleaner. It's like a vagabond busy an accountant. But I have done it out of courtesy for people who buy tobacco. I could have done it myself, but things are getting more and more complicated after I've "cleaned" them.
The modern activity of getting a cleansing product was a revelation. He had considered hiring a single agent, someone grateful for the work ahead and decent work at a reasonable pace.
But the single cleaner does not exist anymore, except by word of mouth. Online, where we usually search first these days, everything it finds is run by businesses. He sees ads with local numbers and obvious personal names, but is diverted to a corporate voice in the South, who speaks to him in an impersonal voice and asks him to wait while he checks to see if any of his busy executives suit me. (and most could not)
I found the prices crazy: they gave me £ 270 for cleaning my semi-urban home. I thought it was crazy and declined, but still spent £ 200, the best price I could get. It was almost six hours of work, and the girl from Eastern Europe did a great job.
But how has the work of the housekeeper changed? It's a big problem now. Great culture too. The so-called "fluid cleaners" online have many admirers for their cleaning tips and some make a fortune with the brands.
People are really interested in the subject and cleanliness has almost become a hobby. You could choose a worse one, fair enough. It is gratifying to see something better and brighter.
I do not know if you noticed, but the problem with cleaning is that everything is dirty again. The same principle applies to gardening. You mowed the grass and a week later it went up again. I am sure there is a moral in this lesson about human existence. Our life is dedicated to the tasks of Sisyphean.
To a lesser extent, horticulture is obviously also a method of cleaning, but there are many horticultural conglomerates. And some of the prices I've heard! It has changed completely again.
When I was young in gardening, only you were a bean, because there were many who worked for the underground economy (during the Thatcher years, people registered for unemployment) and worked alongside that prices have fallen. Fortunately, this is at least changed (to my knowledge).
The fact is that in principle I agree with the new income of gardeners and housewives. Why should not people, who obviously do useful and difficult tasks, be paid generously? I am sure some of them are not yet: independent, loyal and discreet operators with a regular clientele they have had for years. And indeed, I expect that big companies get most of the income from those who work for them, and cleaners have less than you think.
However, the world is changing, as it is, and could be better at completely reversing the bankers, working for speculators and BBC bosses for a small fee.
In the meantime, the potential buyers of my house retired after dragging me for three months, which meant that my cleaning costs were ... money from the windows!
