How to get rid of ringworm number 1: Use pheromone traps
This is by far the most effective method we have found for treating a relatively large number of ringworms. It is much more effective than the sometimes recommended vinegar or fish oil traps, and you really want your cabinets to smell of fish oil?
Pheromone traps have adhesive strips covered with female pheromone that attract male moths. If your infestation level is relatively low, you can eliminate the mites by killing the males. However, it is very important to simultaneously kill the moth larvae that are likely to be left behind in their clothes. Always combine this method with method 2.
How to get rid of ringworm number 2: Wash your clothes all the time
Do not underestimate the importance of this step, regardless of the method you use to get rid of the mites that you are trying to get rid of. Butterflies love the smell of human sweat and body oils, so always wash your clothes before folding and storing them.
Cedar wool detergents also help ward off new moths. It is also a good idea to leave a refreshing bleach on all your clothes, even if they are clean, but have not used them for a while. Moths like to be quiet in dark corners, so you should disturb their rest as often as possible.

How to get rid of ringworm number 3: Use diatomaceous earth
Diatomaceous earth is essentially a very fine rock dust, which acts as a drying agent and dries the body of the insect at all stages of life. It is very effective, but it can be embarrassing, and you should wear protective gloves and a mask when you use it, as it can irritate the respiratory tract when you inhale it.
You can also put kieselgur in a spray bottle, which is especially useful for spraying cracks in the wall and between the cupboard shelves. It is also an excellent choice for carpets as it can cover a large area with dust. However, use only food grade foods.
Diatomaceous earth only works when it is dry. If you spray it directly onto your clothes, remember to re-apply it after washing and drying your clothes.
How to prevent future mite infestation
You have done the difficult task of eradicating the mites from your closet and / or rug. You should now avoid getting your home infected again. We recommend the following measures:
- Use essential oils: A combination always works better than an oil. We recommend that you place the cotton balls in a mixture of essential oils of lavender, carnation, thyme and cedar. Cedar hangers or lavender bags alone are probably not effective.
