Active adjustment: Tips for treating bruises and scratches

Scratches, cuts and bruises are sometimes inevitable in childhood. Most are not too serious injuries; However, these should be treated properly to avoid infections, scars or other complications. The following tips for treating cuts, scratches, and bruises help with the healing process:

  • Scratches and cuts should be treated the same way. A scratch is a superficial injury that does not penetrate the skin while a cut penetrates the skin and should be handled with care. Some cuts may require stitches, depending on the depth and width of the wound. Before cleaning an injury, wash your hands with soap and water. Rinse the area with water for one to two minutes to remove dirt, and then add soap to clean the injured area. In case of bleeding, apply light pressure with gauze or a clean cloth for 10 minutes and lift the wound. Cover the scraper or cut it with an antiseptic ointment and dressing to reduce the risk of infection.
  • Damaged blood vessels under the skin surface cause bruising on the skin. A bruise should be treated with a cold compress several times a day for about 10 to 20 minutes to reduce swelling. After using a cold compress, use a warm and loose compress when the blue is swollen and raises the wound.
  • Use the recommended dose of acetaminophen or ibuprofen to treat pain.

Consult a doctor if pain or swelling persists, or if a wound warms up or produces more pus.
