So Dr. says Sanjay Gupta that you should properly disinfect your grocery store

Travel to the grocery store is inevitable for many Americans during the coronavirus epidemic, but Dr. Sanjay Gupta has some advice on how to properly disinfect your grocery store and prevent the virus from spreading to your home.

The virus can live for up to three days on steel and plastic and up to one day on cardboard, which is why Gupta recommends decontamination. CNN's chief correspondent shared a video on Saturday morning about what to do when he gets home from the grocery store.

Gupta's first step is to create a "dirty area" with recently purchased food and a "clean area" to get into after cleaning.

Once you've set up your zones, Gupta says, take any kind of household cleaner, wipe every grocery store on all surfaces in the dirty zone, and then place them in the clean zone.

"You don't have to do too much, it's a pretty sensitive virus," said Gupta in the video as he cleaned a can. "It is also not necessary to use a specific wipe. Any household cleaner will do this. And when I'm sure I've cleaned everything, I put it in the clean area. ""

Gloves are optional during this process. However, if you wear gloves, Gupta has described the correct removal method so that they are not contaminated. He says he should grab the inside of the glove, throw it on himself, and drop the glove on the dirty area. After disinfection, Gupta recommends washing your hands again.
