The New Jersey company fined $ 150,000 after an amputation during the cleanup

Packaging manufacturers in Lawrence Township on Wednesday imposed a fine of more than $ 150,000 because of a security breach by the Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) after a worker in the past year to clean an engine had suffered an amputation.

BWay Corp., which operates as Mauser Packaging Solutions, imposed fines of $ 151,329 after the incident on September 26, 2019, the OHSA said in a statement.

The agency cited the company for two "repeated and two serious violations of failure to use lockout / tagout procedures to protect employees from hazardous energy," the statement said.

Earlier violations, which were not described in detail by OSHA, occurred in various institutions between 2016 and 2019.

"Workers who service or maintain machines are seriously injured, including amputation if the hazardous energy is not properly controlled," said Paula Dixon, manager of the OSHA Marlton Regional Office. -Roderick, in the press release. "This company needs to correct the identified risks to protect worker safety."

The company has 15 working days from receipt of the appointments to request an informal conference with the OSHA regional director or to question the results.

Mauser could not immediately be reached for comment on Wednesday evening.
