Use black tea and other tool cleaning tips when locking

While the weather is getting warmer and the British are again trying to tinker themselves, many of us forget one thing: cleaning their tools.

MyJobQuote's Lisa Evans has given some tips on how to effectively clean tools and prevent them from deteriorating so that the British can improve their DIY skills and extend the life of their tools.

She said: "Cleaning your tools is important to extend their lifespan and ensure their correct operation.

Cleaning will prevent rust and scratches while ensuring that your tools in the toolbox always look good.

"The most effective cleaners are degreasers like WD-40.

"These types of degreasing agents loosen jammed tools and penetrate dirt so that they can be easily removed.

"A strong degreaser can also remove adhesives that may have stuck to your tools."

Portable tools

To clean hand tools you should use a cleaning solution or degreaser, a wire brush, hot water, steel wool, a soft cloth and household oil.

Let the tools soak in the cleaning solution for at least half an hour. But the longer they soak, the easier it will be to clean them.

Scrub the cleaning tools with a wire brush and remove rust with steel wool.

If your hand tools tend to rust, you should cover them with a soft cloth containing WD-40 or household oil every six months.

Power tools

If you want to clean power tools effectively, make sure that they are disconnected from all power sources.

If the power tool is used in the carpentry and collects sawdust, it must be cleaned with compressed air.

If you use a cleaning solution and a cloth, you should clean your power tools and make sure that the solution is not near the motor or power cables.

A toothbrush or pimple is a great way to clean pimples and crowbars. When you have finished cleaning with the solution, wipe it with a dry cloth to remove any residue.

Make sure that the metal parts are not rusty and remove them with steel wool.

DIY solutions

If you don't have a solution to avoid rust, there are DIY options that work very well.

A cold black tea solution removes rust very well. Let the tools work for at least an hour and you should be able to remove the rust immediately.

Immersing hand tools in white vinegar overnight and scrubbing with a wire brush also removes stubborn rust.

Salt can also be added to the solution to accelerate the reaction.

If you use a vinegar solution for cleaning, it is recommended to mix baking soda and water to neutralize the acidic vinegar.

Regardless of whether you do a generic cleaning with a cleaning solution or a thorough cleaning to remove rust, we recommend that you grease your tools at least every six months to extend their life and ensure proper operation.

A dirty and rusty wrench is useless to anyone when it is tight.
