Cleaning the toilet is one of the most tedious tasks in life, not to mention the ones that smell bad.

But one cleaning fanatic has revealed his simple trick to make his toilet glow and smell fresh: a fabric softener.

TikTok user Amelia Mandeville shared her nifty online hack which has since gone viral.

In the video, Amelia fills a cup of Comfort fabric softener, although any brand does, and pours the liquid into the toilet tank.

Then it's time to leave the liquid in the tank for at least five minutes to mix it with the rest of the water in the tank.

When she returns to the bathroom a few minutes later, she is insane that it "smells so good" because the water in the reservoir that contains the fabric softener flows into the bowl.

The video, which was viewed 1.4 million times on TikTok, received a wave of comments and even had follower Ashlea Kemp try the trick along with her clip.

"It's a great idea," wrote one follower.

One second wrote, "It's amazing, I would never have thought about it. I will definitely try."

"Oh my god this is an amazing idea! Nothing helps me after my husband goes to the bathroom" (sic).

The hack was originally shared online on Instagram in January when an American user recommended "pouring a cup [230 ml] of detergent into the toilet tank," which sinks to the floor.
