How to clean a Keurig coffee maker

If coffee lovers stop: To keep your Keurig running at peak performance, it is important to clean the brewing unit regularly and to descale it every three to six months. Whether you figured it out or you need a booster, we've covered everything you need to know to keep your Keurig in tip-top condition.

Regulations:

    Regular cleaning:

    1. Clean the outside of your infuser by gently wiping it with a damp, soapy cloth.
    2. Slide out the drip tray to remove it, being careful not to spill excess liquid into the drip tray. Then wipe the drip tray and plate with a cloth.
    3. Remove the water tank and lid, clean them by hand and rinse them out. First remove the water filter and do not dry the inside of the tank with a cloth. This will prevent lint from getting stuck inside. You want to do this once a week.
    4. After you've cleaned the exterior and reservoir, it's a good idea to prepare for cleaning. To do this, fill your now clean reservoir and place a large cup on the drip tray. Serve a water infusion, not a K-cup! - with the largest size setting. Note: You can also do this by using one of the Keurig flushing capsules instead of a K-Cup.

      Descaling:

      1. For thorough cleaning, you should descale your Keurig coffee machine every three to six months, depending on how often you use it. This process removes any calcium buildup in your device to keep it in tip-top condition.
      2. Empty the water tank of your coffee machine to start the descaling process. Then pour a full bottle of Keurig descaling solution into the storage container. Fill the now empty bottle with water and pour it in as well. Make sure that there is no K-cup in the coffee machine, place a large cup on the drip tray and activate the descaling mode.
      3. How you activate the descaling mode depends on your model. For the K-Supreme model shown here, you can do this by turning off the infuser and holding the 8 oz and 12 oz buttons together for three seconds. As soon as the light starts flashing, press the brew button to start descaling. Hold down the brew button and repeat the descaling process until the "Add water" indicator lights up.
      4. Rinse the tank well, fill it with fresh water, and begin a cleaning infusion. Repeat until you hear the descaling notification.
      5. As soon as the descaling notification is deactivated, your coffee machine can be used again.
