Fixer Upper star Chip Gaines says Joanna was an "emotional wreck" during the family transition

Any parent will tell you: kids grow up so fast! That's certainly the case with Fixer Upper star and mom Joanna Gaines .

Chip and Joanna are parents to five children ranging in age from 4 to 17, so they go through many milestones and stages in life. But they have one big thing on the horizon: their son Drake's high school graduation. The couple spoke to People about this upcoming transition for the family.

Chip said: "Five babies including one just starting his senior year of high school. He continued, "Jo was an emotional wreck. You can quote me on that."

Joanna explained, "I think for us it means realizing that we are this small, close-knit family unit and a larger family. We're seven of us, but knowing that that dynamic changes the moment a baby leaves."

She continued, "I'm like, 'My God, I remember he was a baby and how that happened? That's where it's at for us, how do you slow down time? Because we know that time doesn't slow down. But if you choose and consciously decide what you do during the day and how you spend your nights in a way that I think is unique, you can really slow down time and really enjoy those moments.

Earlier this summer, Joanna shared some lighthearted family vacation moments, including footage of them playing beach volleyball in a tropical location. Joanna wrote: "Taking in the last days of summer ☀️"
