While there is plenty to see and do at ISSA Show North America 2022 , attending the event is also the perfect opportunity to see the city of Chicago. With fall temperatures ripe for getting out, as Midwesterners like to call "getting out," make time to explore Chi-Town.
Here are five things to see and do while you're in town:
1. Eat at RPM Italian, RPM Steak or RPM Seafood
If you're planning on listening to Morning Spotlight spokesman Bill Rancic on Tuesday, October 11, you might be curious about his Chicago business. If you're in town, now you have an excuse to check them out for yourself. The inaugural winner of NBC television show The Apprentice, Rancic and his wife Giuliana (better known as the E! News co-host) run three restaurants in the city (which is also his hometown): RPM Italian (52 W Illinois St .), RPM Steak (66 W. Kinzie St.), and RPM Seafood (317 N. Clark St.). All three have at least 4.5 stars on Google. Pick one and see for yourself how Rancic has applied his entrepreneurial experience to his grocery stores.
2. Visit the architecture of Chicago
Chicago has some of the most impressive and iconic buildings in the entire world. It also houses buildings designed by some of the best architects in the world.
There are three ways to see Chicago's architecture: by bus, by boat, or on foot, all of which can be arranged through the Chicago Architecture Center. In fact, there are more than 85 walking, bus, and boat tours to choose from that can be booked downtown (111 E. Wacker Dr.) or online . The Chicago Architecture Center building itself is a great example of iconic Chicago architecture.
3. Check out the Chicago Ghost Tour
As Halloween approaches, celebrate by visiting the spookiest spots in town. This "say your price" walking tour starts at sunset and takes you to downtown's spookiest sights, including the Congress Hotel, known as Chicago's most haunted hotel. Learn more by clicking here .
4. Visit the Museum of Science and Industry
Not far from the ISSA Show venue, McCormick Place, is the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry (5700 S. DuSable Lake Shore Dr.). The building that houses the museum is the former Palace of Fine Arts from the 1893 World's Fair. Packed with fun and interactive exhibits, the museum features a life-size replica coal mine, a 3,500-square-foot miniature railway, the Apollo 8 Command module and a captured German submarine in World War II.
5. Get a panoramic view of Chicago
The Observatory Deck on the 94th floor of the former John Hancock Center (875 N. Michigan Ave.), "360 Chicago" offers one of the best views of the Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan, giving you a chance to see October Autumn colors from above. You can also experience the "TILT," a series of floor-to-ceiling windows that slowly tilt 30 degrees out of the building.
You can enjoy an even more exciting view straight down when you visit the Willis Tower Skydeck (233 S. Wacker Dr.), which includes "The Ledge," an all-glass box with vertical ground views 103 stories below.
What to wear depending on the weather
When strolling downtown, be sure to dress appropriately for Chicago's fall temperatures. The weather in October can be as hot as 80 degrees Fahrenheit and as cold as the upper 30's. It's also not uncommon for the city to snow for the first time this month, but when it does, the snow is barely measurable and melts quickly.
It's best to pack diapers for the trip. Don't bring a big winter coat, that would be overkill for October. But bring some sweaters and/or sweatshirts and a light jacket to wear over it.
