As the weather gets colder, we rely on our water heaters to keep our homes warm. To keep you warm, we've put together some boiler maintenance tips to help you avoid unexpected expenses.
Gas, oil and electric boilers require annual maintenance. Whether you need to protect your warranty or just want your boiler to run at peak efficiency, it's a good idea to have it checked annually by a certified technician.
Regular maintenance is much better than the cost of replacing the boiler and can save you money over time.
Check if your gas boiler has a strong blue flame. If it is yellow or orange contact a Gas Safe engineer immediately as there is a risk of carbon monoxide leakage. You should test your carbon monoxide detectors twice a year and have one for each room that has a gas appliance in it.
Oil-fired boilers require regular cleaning to prevent deposits and maintain reliability. Gaskets, filters and nozzles can become clogged with debris and the tank and hoses must be closely inspected for leaks.
There are fewer parts to consider and a lot less cleaning to maintain a kettle. However, it is important to check that all wiring, thermostats, electrical connections and valves are working properly.
