Washing the sheets is one of those chores that you hate because it takes time, and let's face it, no one likes making a bed.
However, it's also one of those high-paying jobs because there's nothing quite like staying up all night.
If you're curious if you're doing this ritual often enough, read on.
Everyone's life is busy, but consider this: you spend about a third of it in bed. Your bedding collects dust, dust mites, dead skin, pet hair, human hair and all kinds of dirt that you wouldn't sleep in if you could see it. Here are some tips for cleaning your linens.
First, be sure to pretreat stains before they go into the washing machine. You can use a stain remover like Shout, but I've found Dawn PowerWash works too. You should check if they come out before running them through the dryer.
Secondly, experts recommend washing in cold water and also tumble drying on the lowest setting so that the sheets last as long as possible.
Third, you should also avoid using fabric softeners and dryer sheets, as both leave residue that reduces breathability and absorbency. Over time, you can feel warm between the sheets.
The answer to how often you should wash? Most experts recommend changing sheets once a week. Whether that means changing the linens or washing and changing them the same day is up to you.
Long story short...keep it clean, y'all!
