Nashville, Tennessee. (WSMV) - The cleanup at Brookemeade Park could take up to four months for crews to finish, according to Metro Parks and Recreation.
The park was closed and its large homeless community relocated earlier this month. Weather-dependent park cleanup efforts have continued since then.
The next step after cleaning is to determine the level of soil contamination, environmental hazards, and other factors that could be harmful.
The assessment will determine the duration and type of corrective action required.
"We will not have an estimate of a timeline for the park's refurbishment, renovation, repair or reopening until the evaluation is complete," Metro Parks said. "The park is officially closed to the public for safety reasons as well as for the efficiency of our team."
The Metro Council issued an ordinance to put up a fence to secure the park and people are no longer allowed to live there.
