Over time, detergent or fabric softener can build up in the laundry drawer, leaving mold or dirt behind. If not cleaned regularly or properly, particles can get into the drum during washing. To help Brits clean their appliances , Currys kitchen expert Lara Brittain has shared a guide on how to do it right.
The expert said: "Your washing machine does a great job of keeping your clothes clean. But don't take your hard-working device for granted. Give it a little care now and then and it will serve you well for years to come.
According to the pro, a conditioner wash is the "best" way to ensure you continue to get greasy results from your wash. Helps remove bacteria, stains, sludge and mold that may have accumulated inside the machine.
You can also remove any old standing water that may have been left in the drum. To perform a maintenance wash, add detergent and select the cotton program on the machine.
Next, set your machine to the hottest cycle and turn the machine on. At the end of the cycle, open the door, remove the seal and wipe away any dirt or water.

For a good clean, pull the drawer out completely and submerge it in a sink filled with warm, soapy water. Take out any easily removable trays and give everything a light brush.
The expert added: "Then rinse, dry and put back together. Put it back in your machine, but before you do that, give the drawer slot a good clean as well.
The final step in a maintenance wash is to clean the filter, which should be cleaned every four to six weeks. It is located at the bottom of the machine, a small cover can cover it.
The water will spill out when you remove the filter, so lay out some towels to protect the floor. Once you have removed the filter, simply clean it by running it under hot water.

Then screw tight, put the cap back on, done. Performing a maintenance wash keeps everything clean and in good condition and helps improve the efficiency of the machine.
Soda crystals can also be used in the drum to clean it properly. Baking soda crystals are known to remove stains, grease and odors.
According to the experts at Clean House Fast, soda crystals are a cheaper and more environmentally friendly way to clean your washing machine.
You can use baking soda to remove limescale, get rid of bad smells and kill mold growth, especially around the door seal.
They advised: "To clean your washing machine with soda, put 500g directly into the washing machine drum.
Then do a vacuum cycle on hot (we recommend the highest temperature on the panel). Soda works with hot water to remove scale and deposits, remove mold, bacteria, and other odor-causing substances, and dissolve detergent build-up.
"Repeat the cleaning process once a month to keep your washing machine in good condition.
You can also use it to clean the outside of the washing machine and clean the door seal. Mix 200 g of soda in 500 ml of lukewarm water and then clean the washing machine with a soft cloth.
