Tips for taking care of the toilet

By Holly Borrego, RBSM, ICE

From smart buildings to robotics, technology is changing the way the plant industry works and maintains the places where people work, learn and play. Even concierge services traditionally based on manual processes come into effect. On the websites of the Massachusetts customers, from Boston to the Bay Area, my team and I work with new and innovative technologies. We try to innovate quickly so that we can evolve with change rather than respond to it. One of the technologies we are most looking forward to is the sensors.

A recent article in The New Yorker talked about collecting customer satisfaction data through four simple, smiling or eyebrow kiosks developed by HappyOrNot. Despite the limited information provided by the four comment options, retailers are using HappyOrNot to dramatically improve operations and sales.

Imagine the ability to provide not only satisfaction data on toilet cleanliness, but also real-time information about specific maintenance requirements. For example, new technologies using touch interfaces allow visitors to the bathrooms to give their opinion on the cleanliness of the toilets. The Average or Service Required selection displays a care chart so that the visitor can specify the exact location of a problem. The entry generates an immediate notification to the cleaning team.

In addition, the sensors continuously monitor these spaces and can predict problems by sending work orders directly to the cleaning team. This means you no longer have to wait for the dealer to fill the paper towel dispenser, or for the members of your installation team to waste time on unnecessary rides. Instead, the sensors provide valuable real-time data about the storage and denial levels that are delivered to the supervisor's device. The cleaning staff is always there where they are needed when they are needed. And with 30% of planned maintenance goods over-executed, there are real opportunities to make savings through a more focused approach.

In addition to real-time feedback on issues, the cloud platform of a sensor system analyzes data over time to provide predictive analysis of bathroom usage and schedules. Services Other benefits include raising residents' awareness of the use of resources, which can help support greener waste reduction efforts.

The sensor technology can also be used to track equipment such as HVAC and lighting units and turn them off when not in use.

Cleaning toilets: The basics are still important

High-tech innovations certainly change the way we approach cleaning, but effective cleaning practices are still the foundation of proper toilet flushing. Here are some cleaning strategies that I found very effective.

  1. Implement a color-coded microfiber cleaning program for pug and rag. This will allow your employees to identify which cleaning products are required for which tasks in your installation. For example, we use red for toilets; green to remove the dust; blue for windows and glass; and yellow for countertops, sinks and other surfaces.
  2. Be careful about how rags are handled. My team and I recommend that a user distribute chemicals directly onto a cloth and then resonate the excess fluid; place dirty rags in the appropriate clothing container; and they always work from top to bottom and clean to dirty.
  3. Employees must have access to distributed and accurately calibrated product distribution systems. The use of highly concentrated cleaning products is more sustainable when it comes to packaging and transport. However, to ensure environmental benefits and ensure worker safety, it is important that these high-concentration products be used in dilution control dosing systems. If no distribution system is available, personnel should be informed of the correct dilution rate and PSA requirements for each chemical mixture.
  4. Cleaning products should always be diluted according to the manufacturer's instructions. When diluting chemicals, always make sure they are accurate by using measuring cups, dosing pumps, and automatic dilution equipment. Regularly check the accuracy of the diluter.
  5. Note that adding concentrated cleaning products does not allow the cleaning product to work better or faster. It just wastes the materials and can even make the work take longer.
  6. If your installation has glass windows, you should invest in a wiper system and telescopic glazing beads. This tool is cheap (about $ 75) and allows workers to easily reach large windows (up to 12 feet), clean the mirror the toilet and clean strip entrances. Be sure to always clean the glass surfaces with the appropriate microfiber pad.
  7. Provide the staff with appropriate cleaning trolleys and point out the standard bearing procedures. This can lead to a significant increase in productivity.
  8. To ensure that the toilet flush is always followed, quarterly training on cleaning procedures is required. Prepare laminated housekeeping cards and attach them to any cleaning trolley so that employees have an immediate relationship reminding them of what they have learned during training.

Avoiding complaints is our goal. Sensors, training, tools and the right equipment are part of a successful cleaning program. Investing in the right place helps us understand when and where our employees need to focus to avoid complaints and improve the customer experience.
