Damage to sandwich elements

A tweet about the database upgrade on March 30 highlighted Audatex's management of the sandwich panels.

"Replacing the sandwich panels involves time to separate the panels by drilling the spot welds and
Slide the replacement plate in the middle, solder and smooth the welds again if necessary, "Audatex writes in the" Exchange and Recycling Operations "section, Section 4-3 of the Database Reference Guide." Damage Sheets that are produced during plate separation (sandwiching) are not included in the work values provided by Audatex and would be taken into account manually. ...

"Manual entry in an offer does not mean that the part / transaction entered is not a necessary procedure."

An investigation of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado estimate at Audatex on May 21 resulted in a response that examined the concept of accident damage in more detail.

"Does the replacement time when replacing a door cover include the time to repair the door frame, where the door frame is damaged by grinding and chipping the old skin? And where you need to use a carriage and hammering the new skin (we need to repair, sand the frame and prime to bring it to a new point on the plate before we restore it) is this extra work included at the time of skin replacement? wrote the DEG user.

In addition to mentioning the language of the sandwich panels on the Audatex P pages, the SDR also referred the user to the instructions in Section 4-2, which read: "The replacement of workers does not involve any additional work to repair the replaced panel and / or adjacent ones Sheets that could be deformed, burned, or damaged by welding, drilling, grinding, and straightening. "

Audatex also told DEG: "DBRM never involves adjusting, repairing or modifying the part. If the technician damages the part, for example by over-repairing or denting it, we cannot take these inconsistencies into account in our work methodology. We have raised this issue in the past. ""

Test welds not included

In a tip published on April 6, the SDR informed estimators and testers that test weld seams may not be included in working hours.

"Some OEM repair procedures may indicate different soldering techniques in different repair areas for individual components," wrote the SDR. "Examples can be a single or a combination of STRSW, MAG, MIG or CuSi braze welds. Given the structure and performance of a destructive weld for a single weld type or multiple weld types, it CANNOT be included in the published order times. ""

He cited CCC and Audatex, who said the same thing on their P. pages.

"Because of the different types of welding equipment used in the body repair industry, the working hours for the replaced welded parts do not include the equipment manufacturer's process steps for setting up and / or testing and preparing the welder for welding," CCC writes . "Any welder manufacturer may have through its own set-up and installation process, and there may be vehicle-specific variables that may increase or decrease the time to set up the welder and prepare for welding. MOTOR suggests using an on-site assessment to ensure the correct set-up and set up time.

Audatex's working exclusions include "Setup of welding equipment, welding materials and / or test welding".

Mitchell appears to be a mother to test welds on her P-sides. However, the information provider's responses to the latest SDR requests indicate that test welds are not included during working hours.

The DEG meeting on April 6 referred readers to an investigation on January 1 to evaluate a Toyota Camry 2018 in Mitchell.

"I replace a welded plate in the quarter," the user wrote. "Toyota says that before I start welding on the vehicle, I have to do a destructive welding test. I can use the damaged board space for part of the test soldering process, but I need to buy test solder materials on other substrates that are different from the room board material. On page P, can you indicate that the cost of these additional materials and the amount of work involved in performing the test weld, which varies depending on the OEM process, are not included? Thanks in advance. Also note that this process may need to be performed multiple times. Toyota also claims that you need to disconnect the SRS connector (usually under the center console) before soldering. Can you add a footnote to all of the soldered components as they are not included? ""

Mitchell indicated that user test welds were not included.

"We have provided no information about performing destructive sweat tests," Mitchell said. "This request to improve the procedural side has already been dealt with in information requests DEG 14129 and 15255 and will be taken into account for future updates."

Mitchell also referred the user to an excerpt from the P-pages on "workshop equipment": "The working hours specified in the manual do not take into account the cost of materials, nor the costs of recycling or disposing of hazardous materials ."

As Mitchell noted, in December 2019, he also requested test welds that were not included in query # 15255 and were related to a 2017 Ford High Roof Transit.

"We have not provided any information about the (performance) of destructive sweat tests," Mitchell wrote. "This is being checked to be considered for future updates to the procedural side."

This paragraph was repeated in survey No. 14129 in May 2019 on a 2016 Toyota Tacoma.

On the Mitchell P pages, it was mentioned that " Set up welding equipment , the " Caster "or" Cold start " tabs are included in the R&R processes for welding aluminum. However, this seems to be an indication of the actual repair process, which means a unique equipment setup and cold start when you are ready to actually solder the car. It doesn't seem to reflect one or more test welds on another metal to ensure that the welder is ready for prime time.

A / C at CCC

"For most vehicles with AC R1234YF systems, CCC / MOTORS have confirmed that 1.4 hours of evacuation and recharging + 0.4 hours of refrigerant recovery work are sufficient," wrote DEG in a tip on Twitter. April 13 .

The rating provider recently rejected a request from a DEG user on April 1 to increase the time limit for a 2019 Honda pass to five hours. The user argued that the R-1234yf takes longer at a dealer. .

CCC replied:

• According to the "GUIDANCE: AIR CONDITIONING", "THE WORKING HOUR DOES NOT include: costs for refrigerant and oil. o Leak test ".

• The estimated working time of 1.4 hours for "evacuation and charging" and 0.4 hours for "refrigerant recovery" is reasonable.

• If necessary, the estimated time to "enter the chassis number and print the paper" is less than six minutes.

• The total estimated working time for "Recovery, Evacuation and Recharge of Refrigerants" is 1.8 hours.

• Air conditioning maintenance and costs are not included in estimated working hours. (Smaller format changes).

CCC also drew the reader's attention to his P-page entry on air conditioning, which states :

A refrigerant recovery process should be considered before any repair that requires the refrigerant line to be disconnected from an AC system that contains refrigerant . The published recovery time is intended for a service technician who regularly operates and monitors the recovery of typical refrigerant and recycling devices when the vehicle's existing refrigerant is transferred from the vehicle to the machine (0.3) and reprocessed by the machine (0.1 ). The recovery time does not include the total processing time of the recycling machine. It also does not include an "AC service" that evacuates, charges, and tests an AC system after repair.

Additional finishing equipment at Mitchell

The DEG message published on Twitter on April 20 helped the mechanics navigate using the additional cladding materials at Mitchell.

He shared information about the calculation of automotive paint materials, which he said came from Mitchell:

"De-nib & Finesse, Finish Sand, and Buff and Mask for Overspray, although valued as some kind of" finish "job, do not contribute to the calculation of materials when the" fee "method is used," Mitchell wrote, according to the SDR.

"… Although materials are used in these operations, they do not have the same cost of primers, hardeners, paints, etc. as those that are automatically applied to cardiac recovery operations in UltraMate. "

Mitchell said the appraiser could use his product finishing material calculator, which "provides a separate quantity for De-nib & Finesse or Finish Sand and Buff" or simply records the cost "as a manual line (s) and / or reference sheet". Use of costs and materials. ""

Clean rooms

"All three information providers answered the installation times for clean / aluminum rooms," wrote the SDR on a board that was tweeted on April 27 .

"CCC and Audatex said the transaction was NOT INCLUDED," while Mitchell said the setup was unnecessary if the store already had a clean room, according to DEG.

The SDR proposed information requests for each of the three PIs at this address.

CCC: "We are looking for guidelines for the CCC working time for aluminum replacement plates," wrote a DEG user in a survey in June 2017 about a Mercedes SL550 convertible from 2013. "... When we looked at CCC for one Replacement panels (such as the quarter body panel or the rear body panel), we are convinced that most of the steps required to maintain our factory Mercedes certifications for structural aluminum will not work in the CCC replacement room for these panels. "

The user wrote that for an operation involving the panel room and the external wheelhouse, "an approved Ruwac clean room and vacuum system must be configured for aluminum extraction / glue / smoking" and suggested CCC. Indicate whether the workforce includes the establishment of an OEM-approved clean room system.

"The installation of an approved OEM-certified clean room is not included in the estimated working hours," answered the CCC.

Audatex: Later in the summer, a DEG user made a request similar to Audatex.

"The working time for the establishment of an approved aluminum OEM room equipment, vacuum suction / aluminum dust, included in the R / R time?" In a survey in August 2017, the user wrote about a 2014 Audi A8 sedan: "The insurance company says it is included. The DRM does not contain any information about the installation of special shop equipment or the maintenance of the devices.

"The installation of aluminum room units, including aluminum vacuum fume extraction and dust extraction, was not taken into account in the distribution of work," replied Audatex. He said to another user earlier this year: "Aluminum repairs require clean room installation, tools, a dust extraction system" and it was "not included". The February investigation included a 2019 Porsche Cayenne S.

Mitchell: Mitchell told a DEG user last year that it might be unnecessary to bill a clean room in a 2018 Tesla Model S.

"When the aluminum components are replaced, does the working time include installing the clean room, cleaning the equipment, installing the necessary extraction systems, the destructive tests and the cost of the welding equipment and moving the vehicle from the 2-post elevator to the designated work area? "User wrote.

"A business that maintains an aluminum repair area shouldn't take (additional) time to install the clean room or the necessary extraction systems," Mitchell wrote.
