Tips to be safe when traveling

CLEAR WATER, Wisconsin (WEAU) - The airport manager at Chippewa Valley Regional Airport says the number of trips for June should already exceed May.

But when more people travel again, health professionals want to remind you to stay safe.

"It is not advisable to travel, it is just to ensure that we take these safety precautions, to mask ourselves when traveling, to wash our hands frequently with a hand sanitizer or 20 seconds with warm water, and also to try not to touch ours dearly or the eyes, also that we are moving away from society, that we are at least one meter apart, "explains Dr. Amy Rantala, MD, a general practitioner.

Chippewa Valley Regional Airport also ensures passenger safety.

"Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have followed the guidelines of the CDC and our local public health service to include the frequent cleaning of highly sensitive surfaces and the increased availability of hand sanitizers, etc." says Charity Zich, airport manager.

Traveling with children can be an additional challenge, but Dr. Rantala has some advice.

"Lots of washing hands, lots of memories of not touching her nose. I think children can cover their coughs or sneezes very well, and we have to lead our children as adults," she says.

In general, the most important safety tip, says Dr. Rantala, the frequent washing of your hands.

"If you wash your hands frequently, whether you are in a private car, on public transport such as a bus or train, or on an airplane, you have to wash your hands."

And Zich says he should contact his airline directly to find out what he is doing to protect passengers.
