Lately, with Arizona's weather fluctuating from hot to cold on the fly, allergy season seems to be just around the corner! Although the weather is fine, many people experience congestion and itching, followed by fever and other problems. A 2018 study showed that this type of allergy affects more than 20 million people in the US alone.
To avoid getting allergies this spring, here are three natural allergy relief tips from Shay Herndon, NMD, of the Arizona Naturopathic Medical Association (AzNMA) to help alleviate some of the problems people may face during this time are.

The first tip is to take probiotics. These can fight "strange" allergies when they enter the body. "Probiotics can be great for modulating the immune system," said Herndon.
In addition to consuming probiotics, natural supplements like vitamin C are another option to act as natural antihistamines to help relieve allergy symptoms.
The next tip is to clean your home regularly to remove floating dust and pollen. Some methods include changing air filters and vanes frequently, and vacuuming.
"We can track the pollen and bring it into the house from the outside. It sticks to us. So try not to go outside on windy days," said Herndon. "It's also very important not to let clothes dry outdoors."
The final tip is to flush the nasal passage with saline frequently to clear the occlusion at the back of the head.
"It's important to return to using sterile water to clear any congestion," said Herndon. "You can also use a neti pot of water as a natural method of decongestion."
Herndon said that other health professionals may recommend other methods like acupuncture, but it comes down to making sure the body is healthy and functioning at a vulnerable time like allergy season!
