Your washing machine is used several times a week and bacteria and other contaminants are getting into the machine with your clothes. Where do you think these things go and what happens to the dirt on your clothes? By now you should know that cleaning your machine is critically important, but you may not have realized that you also need to clean the filter and drain the pump. This is how TikTokers explains it.
The washing machine pump filter has an important function: it protects the pump from the build-up of lint and other parts that may have gotten inside the machine.
Coins, labels, hair clips, lint, scraps of food, whatever.
These aren't the only things you don't want to leave stuck in the machine. You should also clean the machine of excess water.
When you wash your clothes, there is still water in the machine and the drain pump pumps the wash water through the drain hose to drain it.
There is a retractable hose on the side of the filter that you can use to drain this water.

Very few people know that the filter needs to be cleaned and the pump emptied about four times a year.
In fact, close-ups of dirty filters and wet bombs have gone viral on TikTok, inspiring others to inspect their own machines.
TikTok users @jkentrn explains, "If you didn't know, most front loading washing machines have a lint filter that you need to clean regularly. Mine is on the front of the machine.
"Here you can see that we have the pipe to empty the tank and filter ourselves. Mine is good enough to come with instructions.
How to clean the filter of a washing machine and empty the tank
As mentioned above, all you have to do to empty the tank is remove the pump from the bracket and drain the water into a bucket or container.
It may take a while before you can clean the filter while you wait for the tank to empty.
To thoroughly clean the filter cap, first remove lint and other debris from the cap with a paper towel.
Then, soak the filter in hot soapy water for 10 minutes, paying attention to the inside of the machine that the filter fits into.
Remove the dirt with a paper towel and scrub the area with a damp, soapy sponge.
Rinse the hole and dry it with a cloth. Rinse and dry the filter cap and put it back in the hole.
